Women's Heath Program

Men are from Mars…and women are from Venus.  When it comes to the musculoskeletal system, this might be true!  That’s why at Desert Pain Institute, we offer a women’s health program that focuses on the musculoskeletal issues affecting women across the entire lifespan.  From the teenage girl with an ACL tear to the pregnant mother with back pain to the post-menopausal woman with osteoporosis, women of any age can benefit from this program.  We successfully manage many diagnoses including:

  • Pregnancy and post-partum related pain
    • Back pain and sciatica
    • Sacroiliac joint pain
    • Neck, shoulder and hip pain
  • Orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries
  • Osteoporosis
    • Vertebral compression fractures
    • General prevention and treatment
  • Coccygodynia/tailbone pain
  • Pelvic floor weakness and/or incontinence
  • Musculoskeletal associated pelvic pain

Our women’s health program is led by a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician who specializes in musculoskeletal and women’s health rehabilitation.  Your evaluation will include a detailed history, comprehensive examination of the nerves, muscles, joints and pelvic floor when necessary, and any pertinent diagnostic testing. With this approach, we develop an individualized treatment plan that focuses not just on the symptoms but on the patient as a whole.

Our women’s health team includes physicians, physical therapists with advanced training in women’s health and pelvic floor therapy, exercise physiologists, and behavioral health specialists.  We all work together to manage your pain and moreover, improve your function because we know pain can affect your ability to participate in home-life, work and other social and leisure activities.  Our aim is to help you reach your goals so you can enjoy an active and satisfying life as a wife, a daughter, a mother...a woman.
